My Secret Sauce

1.     I strongly believe that every individual possesses unique characteristics and abilities that separate them from everyone else. For me personally I believe my most valuable characteristics are my creative ability, my eye for design, my work ethic, my thoroughness, and my relentless desire to succeed. Many of these characteristics are very general, but ultimately I believe what is unique to me is the way I work for things I care about and my talent for design.

2.     With each interview I asked the exact same question and simply looked for the variations in response. I would simply ask what quality do you think I possess that separates me from others, what quality do you think is you unique to me. Each individual I interviewed had a different unique answer. I was only able to find four friends with the time and availability to be interviewed, but I believe all of them had unique useful answers.

My first interview said that he believes my creativity is my best quality. This is something I believe correlates with my own vision of myself and I am glad to hear that others have similar opinions on my skill set.

My second interview said something very interesting and said that he thinks I’m very direct. This is not a quality that I would normally think of, but it was definitely interesting to see his rational.

My third interview said that I am a hard worker. This answer also seemed to correlate with my view of my self and I think is a skill that is valued in any position.

My four and last interview said that my skill and a skill that several people in my generation possess is the tenacious mindset. I don’t know if I would consider this trait to be particularly unique to me, but it was interesting to see what he considers tenacious.

3.     I think there are minor differences in what others see in me, but for the most part I believe others have a relatively similar view of my abilities and myself. I think that there is always variances in the way you assess yourself and the way other assess you. Each person has unique qualities that they consider unique to them and they also have talents that many people don’t have the opportunity to see. I think the differences stem from people’s experiences with you. If you work with someone there will definitely be a difference in how the see you vs. how a friend of fraternity brother sees you. Looking back I don’t think I would change anything in my list.

  1. Hi Eric,

Thanks for sharing your interviews and the qualities that you think make up your "secret sauce". As a more technical person I definitely respect your ability to create and manipulate designs. While designing a system or the appearance of a product is definitely important, it's one thing that I always seem to find myself struggling with. Keep on working hard and I'm sure you'll reach your goals.

  2. Hi Eric!
I definitely agree with what you said about how everyone has unique qualities that make them who they are. We are all different in some sort of way but we also all have really great things about us. I enjoyed reading your post and hearing what your friends had to say about you. With your desire to succeed, you will be able to overcome whatever you set your mind to. Good luck with the rest of the semester!

  3. Eric,
Nice. I would say that the skills you identified were not necessarily what came to mind for those people though. No worries, I suppose it just means you are better at more than you thought. Do you think that there is a reason other people identified other things? I appreciated how you elaborated on all of your skills, it certainly gave me a better look at what you felt you were good at.
I did not do this assignment.

  4. Hey Eric,
Great job on the interviews, we all have unique attributes that make us who we are. It's really important to have a strong work ethic as a core quality. A strong work ethic was actually one of my characteristics too. I also mentioned that I was creative. But those unique attributes that you have will carry you far in life. Here's a link to my blog if you want to take a look.

  5. Hello Eric,

I liked the interviews. I obviously do not know you personally, but apparently through what your friends speak of you, you seem to have a lot going for you, and if you use the right tools you can go very far in your life. Also, I do really like how you address what you think of yourself and how others think, and the differences associated with them in the last paragraph. Good luck with everything. 7. Hey Eric!

Good job on the assignment and the interviews! Out of all the posts that I reviewed, you seemed to be the most in-depth one especially concerning the interviews. You really do seem to have a good work ethic just by looking at all the work you put into this one assignment. It was also good to see all of your interviewees backing up your qualities that you saw in yourself. Great job!
